by anonymous Times Knew Roman (or TKR, as their rabid following calls them) , got their start in the summer of 2003. The idea for the band was the brainchild of drummer, Katie, who simply wanted to make "punk rock by girls, for girls." She eventually turned to childhood friends Jen (guitar), Stephanie (vocals), and Lisa (bassist) for support. "Right when I heard the idea, I knew I wanted to be a part of this project," stated a somewhat drunk Lisa. "There can never be enough punk rock." Future incidents would prove the surly bassist wrong. The band played their first and only show on June first, 2003 after weeks of practicing. The show, which took place in Stephanie's basement, drew a larger crowd than was expected. TKR "even killed a man." The fans seemed to enjoy the music, and the band definitely enjoyed playing it. TKR was headed for the stars, but little did they know what obstacles stood in their way. In September of 2003, the band split up due to internal conflict. "I guess we just wanted to take some time off to work on our own projects," said Katie, who had a brief taste of success with her solo project, Preparation: Grapefruit. However, the taste turned sour in December, when the band decided to reunite. "Now that Glistar's gone," said Jen, "Who else will provide Schaumburg with their daily dose of punk rock? Besides, I missed my grrrlz." TKR's reunion show will take place on January 3, 2004 in Stephanie's basement. * This article originally appeared in the Schaumburg Sextant under the title, "Local Punk Band Reunites." |
